About Sunday Seoul

Hello, I'm Melissa, the founder of Sunday Seoul, a dedicated e-commerce business specialising in Korean skincare products, based in Auckland, New Zealand. I have the most supportive husband and two little girls.

I describe myself as a qualified accountant and a skincare enthusiast which feeds both the analytical and creative sides of my brain. The transition from numbers to nurturing skin was catalysed during my maternity leave with my first daughter. Amidst the joys and challenges of new motherhood, I sought something else to stimulate my mind.

I am often asked "why Korean skincare".  To be honest, after extensive research and years of using Western skincare brands I discovered that Korean skincare is not only more affordable but more efficacious and advanced from a research perspective. 

The Birth of Sunday Seoul

The inspiration to start Sunday Seoul wasn't a lightning bolt moment but a gradual realization of my love for skincare. Particularly, I love sheet masks, a simple yet effective ritual of self-care. Initially, I envisioned creating a subscription box for sheet masks. However, as I delved deeper into the market, I discovered a broader demand for a wide range of Korean skincare products. Thus, Sunday Seoul was born in January 2021, with a mission to share the transformative benefits of K-Beauty with New Zealand.

Overcoming Early Hurdles

Starting this venture was not without its challenges. The constantly evolving consumer demands and the high shipping costs in a post-COVID world were significant hurdles.  There was a time during a COVID lockdown when local packages were taking a week to be delivered so I jumped in my car and delivered those in my local community.  It was a great opportunity to get out and meet some of my amazing customers and to demonstrate the personalized service that we offer here at Sunday Seoul.

At Sunday Seoul, our mission is clear: to go above and beyond for our customers, offering only the best products and exceptional customer service. We envision a future where our company has expanded into a large warehouse, offering a wider range of brands and products. We're also exploring exciting opportunities for pop-up shops to bring our products even closer to our customers.
